National Geological Survey Grid

Strategic objectives

Serving the public with the commonweal geological data sharing services and accessing software, NGG is an information grid for nationwide geological survey activities.

NGG’s objective - Supported by grid technology, NGG is to realize easy accessing and sharing of geological information in the distributed environment, which provides large-scale professional software and computing capability for geological applications.

Ongoing work - Providing commonweal geologic information and data process capability for the public is the task and responsibility of NGG. Currently China Geological Survey Bureau are struggling to realize it, ongoing work includes

  1. Building and integrating the geological databases.
  2. Developing basic network environment (three-layer network infrastructure and CNGI)
  3. Developing data resource sharing and accessing software.
  4. Porting and improving the information process software

Funding agencies

Major funds may come from the application branches, which are sponsored the project, National Land and Resource Survey led by China’s geological survey bureau, moreover, other funds may come from MOST’s 863 project (Ministry of science and Technology of PRC) for the research on the NGG key technologies.

Institutes, Universities, Industries active in that sector

Collaborations in NGG

Developing NGG is a complex work, including a number of data resource and software development, grid environment development, geological data resource coordination mechanism development and other points. It is led by China Geological Survey Bureau, carried out with the sub institutions. Meanwhile, Beihang University constructed the grid platform and application systems. CNIC of CAS (Chinese Academy of Science) also provides the grid software.
